What are porcelain veneers?

A porcelain veneer is a thin shield applied over your natural teeth. This changes their shape, giving you beautiful, straight, and durable teeth. No more gaps, discolored, or crooked teeth: you can proudly show off your smile again. It creates a natural and healthy appearance. The dentist custom-makes the veneers in our laboratory. Rest assured, we'll provide you with a temporary replacement until they're ready, so you don't have to leave without teeth.

The alternative: composite veneers

In addition to porcelain veneers, we also place composite veneers. These are bonded directly to your teeth using filling material. Porcelain veneers are often slightly more expensive than composite veneers, but they are also considerably more durable. Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a laboratory and are slightly stronger and less susceptible to discoloration. Composite veneers are a particularly good option for mild dental problems or minor irregularities.

Cost of porcelain veneers

Besides the function and results, the price of porcelain veneers is also important. It's very difficult for us to give you an estimate here. Every set of teeth is different, and everyone has different complaints and needs. During the consultation, the dentist will carefully examine your teeth and develop a treatment plan. We will always discuss the costs, so you'll never encounter any surprises. We can list the average costs, but they may vary.

  • The cost of a porcelain veneer is around €800 per tooth
  • In addition, there may be additional costs for the intake and any necessary X-rays. These costs will always be discussed with you.

The costs of the intake and taking the initial X-rays are often covered by your health insurance if you have supplementary dental insurance. Always check with your health insurer directly.

How does the intake process proceed?

Interview

During an intake appointment, the dentist (specialist) will examine the condition of your teeth. We use the latest techniques for this. We'll let you observe and discuss the options together. Naturally, we'll also assess your expectations.

Treatment plan / Budget

We create a customized treatment plan with an accompanying budget and, if necessary, propose various solutions. If authorization from your health insurer is required, we can also arrange that for you.

Planning and starting treatment

After you've approved the budget, we'll create a schedule. It's important that all appointments are scheduled in the correct order with the right practitioner. We'll also ask about your preferred days and times. After scheduling, we look forward to starting your treatment!

Dr. Jack Plooij

Head of the clinic (dentist implantologist) – self-employed
Alongside his career in motorsport, Jack has always been active as a dental implantologist. He studied dentistry in Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in 1992 at the then KU Nijmegen based on research into the treatment effects of immediate overdentures and conventional immediate dentures. CDC knows Jack from the past, where he enjoyed working with the team back then. As of October 1, 2025, he is making his return to CDC as Chief of Clinic. Giulio Ricceri

Giulio studied Dentistry in Madrid and graduated from the University Alfonso X El Sabio in 2015. After a short work experience, Giulio moved to the Netherlands and gained five years of work experience. Giulio also further specialized in Endodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry, Prosthetics and Surgery. Giulio works 50% at CDC and 50% in a Clinic in Lombardy (Italy).

Karen Mulders

Karen has been a dentist at CDC since 2001. After graduating from Utrecht University, she established her own practice in Zeist and later in Rotterdam. Her specialty is cosmetic/aesthetic dentistry. "At CDC, nine out of 10 patients are helped by patients who are afraid of the dentist. They've experienced unpleasant things, and by addressing them, you get so much satisfaction from your work. Joana comes from Portugal, where she successfully completed her university dental training. In 2021, Joana moved to the Netherlands with her boyfriend and has enjoyed working at CDC for years now. It's a wonderful challenge, and she's still grateful for it every day. "We strive for perfection in terms of bite, shape, and color. My colleagues from the laboratory also come into the room to see how the crowns or veneers look on the patient. Before we finally place any work, we can still make adjustments. Coen's passion for dental technology arose when he was sixteen. He's always enjoyed working with his hands and appreciates the art of creating high-quality pieces. He's now been active in dental technology for eighteen years. Coen started at CDC as a rookie in the denture rebase and repair department. During his first years at CDC, he completed his dental technology degree at the DHTA in Utrecht. He's now been working at CDC for twelve years and has enjoyed working as the laboratory manager for the past four years. Four years ago, Coen successfully completed his Dentistry degree at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. This allows him to maintain interaction with patients, which he truly enjoys.

Why are cosmetic and implant treatments sometimes cheaper abroad?

There are several options abroad where you see beautiful photos in the media with impressive final results. However, be careful! Sometimes the results are very disappointing. Many patients regret this afterward, and then the dentist abroad is often no longer available.

Can you also provide advice about the anesthesia during the intake?

You can discuss any questions you have with the dentist during your initial consultation. If anything remains unclear afterward, please feel free to contact us. We have friendly colleagues available by phone, and we also have healthcare consultants who can answer any questions you may have.

I haven't been to the dentist in a long time, and I'm hesitant to make an appointment. How do you handle that?

Admitting you're afraid of the dentist is a good first step. Ask a family member or friend to accompany you to the clinic. Also, let us know at our clinic that you're genuinely afraid. We'll tailor a treatment plan to your needs and listen carefully to your wishes.

Am I required to take out dental insurance?

Taking out insurance isn't required. However, it is recommended if you're considering cosmetic or restorative dental treatment. During the consultation, the dentist will advise you and provide you with a preliminary estimate.
