Introduction & intake

We begin with a personal introductory meeting. During this consultation, we'll listen to your wishes and needs, discuss your dental health, and take photos or x-rays if necessary. This gives us a complete picture of your situation.

Customized treatment plan

Based on the intake, we'll create a treatment plan tailored to your specific situation. Whether it involves regular checkups, preventive care, cosmetic treatments, or more complex procedures, we'll clearly explain the steps involved, what you can expect, and how long the process will take.

Implementation & aftercare

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is one of our specialties within dentistry. It focuses on correcting the position of your teeth and jaws. The difference between a dentist and an orthodontist lies primarily in their additional expertise and experience with complex dental abnormalities. At CDC, we have both dentists and orthodontists, so we can work together to determine which treatment and procedure best suits your needs. Looking for orthodontics with no waiting time? Who is the orthodontist suitable for?

Orthodontic treatment is especially suitable if your teeth are crooked, your bite doesn't close properly, or you experience other complaints such as wear or pain in your jaw. Orthodontics for adults is often chosen for its aesthetic results, but it can also alleviate certain complaints. Because appearance is often more important for adults, we offer Invisalign in addition to regular braces. This virtually invisible brace is ideal for correcting the teeth.

Costs and reimbursements for orthodontics

If you'd like to correct your teeth, the cost is naturally a factor. Orthodontic costs vary depending on the treatment and the complexity of your teeth. Therefore, it's very difficult to determine the exact cost in advance. Your practitioner will always outline all the costs for you, so you won't encounter any surprises.

 

Orthodontic insurance or health insurance may cover (part of) the costs. For adults, this is often only possible through supplementary insurance. Always check with your health insurer whether orthodontic coverage is available.

How does the intake process proceed?

Interview

During an intake appointment, the dentist (specialist) will examine the condition of your teeth. We use the latest techniques for this. We'll let you observe and discuss the options together. Naturally, we'll also assess your expectations.

Treatment plan / Budget

We create a customized treatment plan with an accompanying budget and, if necessary, propose various solutions. If authorization from your health insurer is required, we can also arrange that for you.

Planning and starting treatment

After you've approved the budget, we'll create a schedule. It's important that all appointments are scheduled in the correct order with the right practitioner. We'll also ask about your preferred days and times. After scheduling, we look forward to starting your treatment!

Dr. Jack Plooij

Head of the clinic (dentist implantologist) – self-employed
Alongside his career in motorsport, Jack has always been active as a dental implantologist. He studied dentistry in Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in 1992 at the then KU Nijmegen based on research into the treatment effects of immediate overdentures and conventional immediate dentures. CDC knows Jack from the past, where he enjoyed working with the team back then. As of October 1, 2025, he is making his return to CDC as Chief of Clinic. Jack looks forward to working with the professional team to continue building high-quality dentistry and the best care for patients. *NVOI registered implantologist*

Giulio Ricceri

Dentist (endo specialty) – self-employed
Giulio studied Dentistry in Madrid and graduated from the University Alfonso X El Sabio in 2015. After a short work experience, Giulio moved to the Netherlands and gained five years of work experience. Giulio also further specialized in Endodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry, Prosthetics and Surgery. Giulio works 50% at CDC and 50% in a Clinic in Lombardy (Italy).

Karen Mulders

Dentist (cosmetic/aesthetic specialty)
Karen has been a dentist at CDC since 2001. After graduating from Utrecht University, she established her own practice in Zeist and later in Rotterdam. Her specialty is cosmetic/aesthetic dentistry. "At CDC, nine out of 10 patients are helped by patients who are afraid of the dentist. They've experienced unpleasant things, and by addressing them, you get so much satisfaction from your work. People are embarrassed by their teeth, and when you see them again, without fear or shame, smiling brightly, it's so wonderful!" As an experienced dentist and implantologist, he has specialized in this at CDC for over 16 years. Zemarak studied dentistry at the University of Bonn, Germany, specializing in implantology and aesthetic reconstructive dentistry. Joana Duarte Pedreiras

Joana comes from Portugal, where she successfully completed her university dental training. In 2021, Joana moved to the Netherlands with her boyfriend and has enjoyed working at CDC for years now. It's a wonderful challenge, and she's still grateful for it every day. "We strive for perfection in terms of bite, shape, and color. My colleagues from the laboratory also come into the room to see how the crowns or veneers look on the patient. Before we finally place any work, we can still make adjustments. We only place the crowns if the patient is completely satisfied. Moreover, the collaboration with the entire team is very pleasant. Only together can we provide the best care and work. Coen's passion for dental technology arose when he was sixteen. He's always enjoyed working with his hands and appreciates the art of creating high-quality pieces. He's now been active in dental technology for eighteen years. Coen started at CDC as a rookie in the denture rebase and repair department. During his first years at CDC, he completed his dental technology degree at the DHTA in Utrecht. He's now been working at CDC for twelve years and has enjoyed working as the laboratory manager for the past four years. Four years ago, Coen successfully completed his Dentistry degree at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. This allows him to maintain interaction with patients, which he truly enjoys.

Which oral problems are solved by orthodontics?

Our orthodontists can straighten crooked teeth, close gaps, correct overbites and underbites, or move teeth with limited space. They also improve the bite and can resolve jaw problems. All of this contributes to better oral health.

Is orthodontics reimbursed?

For children under 18, treatments are often (partially) covered by supplementary insurance. For adults, this depends on your policy. Always check with your health insurer to be sure.

How long does orthodontic treatment take on average?

The duration depends greatly on the type of treatment and the complexity of your dental situation. On average, a treatment takes 12 to 24 months, but this can be shorter for simple corrections.

Is the orthodontist only for children?

No, orthodontics is also suitable for adults. More and more adults are choosing braces, either for aesthetic reasons or to improve their overall oral health. Everyone is welcome, and we're happy to discuss your options with you.
