How do we proceed?

Intake and start of treatment

During this appointment, impressions will be taken to create a temporary, also known as an immediate, denture. Together, we'll determine the color based on color samples. This appointment can take place immediately after the initial consultation if you'd like to schedule the treatment right away.

Extract remaining teeth and/or molars

The next step is to extract the remaining teeth. This is done under local anesthesia, but can also be done under general anesthesia if you are very apprehensive or afraid of it. We have experience with treatments under general anesthesia, as well as with clients who are afraid of the dentist. The wounds are sutured, and the immediate dentures are placed on the jaws. You should keep these in as much as possible, as they act as a bandage on the wounds.

Remove stitches, softliner

After a week, you'll return to have your stitches removed. Any pressure points will be removed, and a soft liner will be placed in your dentures. A soft liner is a soft material that ensures a better fit. Your jaws will heal and therefore change position slightly.

rebase

The next step is a rebase. The softliner is removed, and a new impression is made using your current denture. For this, your denture and the impression are sent to our dental laboratory. A new layer of plastic is then placed in the denture, improving its fit.

Permanent dentures

Now it's time to replace your immediate dentures with your permanent ones. Impressions will be taken using your current dentures. We'll once again discuss the color, shape, and size of your teeth and molars for your permanent dentures. The denture with the impression will be sent to our in-house lab for the fabrication of your new permanent dentures. After about four hours, your new dentures will be ready. Together, we'll examine the shape, color, and position of your teeth. If everything is approved, we'll finish the dentures, and you'll receive your immediate dentures back.

What is a denture?

Dentures are custom-made replacements for missing teeth. The best solution depends on your specific situation. Our specialists and implantologists will assess your situation and preferences. Based on this, a personalized treatment plan will be developed. Each denture is made in our own laboratory. Our goal is always to ensure the denture looks as natural as possible and is comfortable to wear.

 

When do you choose dentures or a prosthesis?

There are several situations where dentures or a prosthesis might be the best solution for you. These include:

  • You are missing several teeth
  • Your teeth are in poor condition
  • You have difficulty chewing or speaking
  • You are dissatisfied with the appearance of your teeth

What is the difference between the types of prostheses?

  • A complete denture replaces all teeth in both the lower and upper jaw.
  • A click-in denture is clicked onto implants for extra strength
  • The partial denture is a partial denture that is attached to your own teeth. This is done with a metal base.
  • A plate denture is similar to a frame denture, but has a plastic base that rests on the gums.

Costs and Fees

The cost of dentures or prostheses depends on the type you choose, the material used, and the complexity of the procedure. It's often the case that (part of) the costs are covered by basic health insurance. Supplemental insurance can also offer more coverage. Always check with your health insurer.

During the intake, all costs are always stated, so that you are not faced with any surprises and know where you stand.

Can you talk and eat well with dentures?

It sounds and feels different because your mouth muscles still need to adjust. Your jaw is also still healing, so you may still experience some pain and dentures may not fit comfortably. A dental technician can fix this.

How should you maintain your dentures?

It's important to clean your dentures daily. Store them in a glass of water overnight to prevent them from drying out. Your dental technician can advise you on how often you should return for a checkup; once a year is usually sufficient.

How does the intake process proceed?

Interview

During an intake appointment, the dentist (specialist) will examine the condition of your teeth. We use the latest techniques for this. We'll let you observe and discuss the options together. Naturally, we'll also assess your expectations.

Treatment plan / Budget

We create a customized treatment plan with an accompanying budget and, if necessary, propose various solutions. If authorization from your health insurer is required, we can also arrange that for you.

Planning and starting treatment

After you've approved the budget, we'll create a schedule. It's important that all appointments are scheduled in the correct order with the right practitioner. We'll also ask about your preferred days and times. After scheduling, we look forward to starting your treatment!

Alongside his career in motorsport, Jack has always been active as a dental implantologist. He studied dentistry in Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in 1992 at the then KU Nijmegen based on research into the treatment effects of immediate overdentures and conventional immediate dentures. CDC knows Jack from the past, where he enjoyed working with the team back then. As of October 1, 2025, he is making his return to CDC as Chief of Clinic. Giulio studied Dentistry in Madrid and graduated from the University Alfonso X El Sabio in 2015. After a short work experience, Giulio moved to the Netherlands and gained five years of work experience. Giulio also further specialized in Endodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry, Prosthetics and Surgery. Giulio works 50% at CDC and 50% in a Clinic in Lombardy (Italy).

Karen has been a dentist at CDC since 2001. After graduating from Utrecht University, she established her own practice in Zeist and later in Rotterdam. Her specialty is cosmetic/aesthetic dentistry. Joana comes from Portugal, where she successfully completed her university dental training. In 2021, Joana moved to the Netherlands with her boyfriend and has enjoyed working at CDC for years now. It's a wonderful challenge, and she's still grateful for it every day. "We strive for perfection in terms of bite, shape, and color. My colleagues from the laboratory also come into the room to see how the crowns or veneers look on the patient. Before we finally place any work, we can still make adjustments. He's now been active in dental technology for eighteen years. Coen started at CDC as a rookie in the denture rebase and repair department. During his first years at CDC, he completed his dental technology degree at the DHTA in Utrecht. He's now been working at CDC for twelve years and has enjoyed working as the laboratory manager for the past four years. Four years ago, Coen successfully completed his Dentistry degree at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. This allows him to maintain interaction with patients, which he truly enjoys.

How long does the process from intake to placement take?

The exact duration depends on the type of prosthesis, but on average we calculate 3 to 6 weeks.

Can I eat anything with dentures or prostheses?

Yes, this is definitely possible. After a short period of getting used to the prosthesis, you can eat normally again. It's wise to avoid very hard and sticky foods initially.

Are dentures or prostheses reimbursed?

Dentures are often covered by basic health insurance. Other types of prostheses sometimes require supplementary insurance. Always check with your health insurer.
