When are you eligible for click-in dentures?

  • You no longer have any teeth of your own in your upper and lower jaws. So you are completely toothless;
  • You cannot get normal dentures because there are problems with the shape of the jaw;
  • You have a very shrunken jaw because you have been wearing dentures for a long time.

A snap-on denture might be a good solution for you. With dentures, there's a risk that they can become loose over time as the jawbone gradually shrinks. With a snap-on denture, the denture is attached to implants in the jaw, making it click more securely into place. A snap-on denture gives you a lot of confidence again. It feels more natural and stable, making daily activities like eating and talking much more comfortable.

How do we proceed?

The doctor will draw up a treatment plan that suits you

The intake is the first step in the entire treatment process. The practitioner will take an OPG (an X-ray that shows both the upper and lower jaws) and, if necessary, additional X-rays. The practitioner will perform an oral examination, and you will have the opportunity to discuss any complaints and problems. It is important that you share your current and past health status with the practitioner so they can propose appropriate solutions.

Placing implants

Placing implants is a relatively simple process performed under local anesthesia or general sedation. A small hole is drilled into the jawbone and then reamed to the desired thickness and length. This depends on the size of the implant to be placed.

Once the implant is placed in the jawbone, it is closed with a temporary healing cap.

Healing period

For the implant to properly integrate into the jawbone, a healing period is necessary. This healing period varies from two to six months. Several factors determine this significant time difference, such as the individual's recovery capacity, the type of implant used, and the position in the jaw where the implant is placed.

Depending on the individual situation, a temporary replacement is placed during the healing period. This means you don't have to be toothless during the healing period.

Manufacturing click dentures

The fabrication of a denture is a phase that consists of several steps. The dentures are made in our dental laboratory. The practitioner will create a step-by-step plan outlining what needs to be done and when. The practitioner will discuss this with you so you know what to expect. Once the implants have grown securely into the jawbone and the dentures are ready, they can be placed.

Aftercare

The treatment is almost complete and concludes with a very important part of the entire process: aftercare. An implant requires good oral hygiene to be durable. You should care for your teeth as if they were your own natural teeth. Discuss with your practitioner how best to do this in your situation. Good oral hygiene is essential for long-lasting, problem-free use of your dentures!

When regular dentures don't provide enough support, clip-in dentures are the solution. There are several things to consider, and we're happy to explain them all to you.

What is a click denture?

This is a removable denture that clicks onto implants. The implants are essentially the artificial roots that firmly secure the teeth. An implant-supported denture combines the convenience of a removable denture with the stability of implants. This reduces the risk of tooth slippage and makes it more comfortable in your mouth.

Types of click dentures

There are different types of dentures. This depends on your situation and the desired stability. You can choose from:

  • A click-in upper jaw denture is placed when dentures do not provide sufficient stability.
  • A lower jaw click-in denture often requires two to four implants to be firmly secured.
  • A full click denture on multiple implants.

From dentures to click dentures

People often switch from dentures to clip-on dentures. This is often because the dentures become loose. By using implants with clip-on dentures, the dentures regain a stable foundation. Implants for click dentures

For dentures, implants must first be placed. These are small titanium screws that are fixed into the jawbone, providing a firm foundation for the dentures. After the implants are placed, your mouth needs to heal. Once this has healed, the dentures can be clicked onto the implants.

Click-in denture costs and reimbursement

The cost of dentures depends on many different factors, such as the number of implants and the type of denture. In some cases, dentures may be covered by basic health insurance. This is the case, for example, if dentures don't function properly. Always check with your own health insurance provider to be sure. During the consultation, we always clearly outline all costs and discuss any reimbursements.

Sometimes minor problems can arise with dentures. This can be caused by wear or when parts become loose. This is often easily resolved with a repair or adjustment. Thanks to our in-house lab, we can always help quickly.

How does the intake process proceed?

Interview

During an intake appointment, the dentist (specialist) will examine the condition of your teeth. We use the latest techniques for this. We'll let you observe and discuss the options together. Naturally, we'll also assess your expectations.

Treatment plan / Budget

We create a customized treatment plan with an accompanying budget and, if necessary, propose various solutions. If authorization from your health insurer is required, we can also arrange that for you.

Planning and starting treatment

After you've approved the budget, we'll create a schedule. It's important that all appointments are scheduled in the correct order with the right practitioner. We'll also ask about your preferred days and times. After scheduling, we look forward to starting your treatment!

Dr. Jack Plooij

Alongside his career in motorsport, Jack has always been active as a dental implantologist. He studied dentistry in Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in 1992 at the then KU Nijmegen based on research into the treatment effects of immediate overdentures and conventional immediate dentures. CDC knows Jack from the past, where he enjoyed working with the team back then. As of October 1, 2025, he is making his return to CDC as Chief of Clinic. Giulio studied Dentistry in Madrid and graduated from the University Alfonso X El Sabio in 2015. After a short work experience, Giulio moved to the Netherlands and gained five years of work experience. Giulio also further specialized in Endodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry, Prosthetics and Surgery. Giulio works 50% at CDC and 50% in a Clinic in Lombardy (Italy).

Karen Mulders

Karen has been a dentist at CDC since 2001. After graduating from Utrecht University, she established her own practice in Zeist and later in Rotterdam. Her specialty is cosmetic/aesthetic dentistry. Joana comes from Portugal, where she successfully completed her university dental training. In 2021, Joana moved to the Netherlands with her boyfriend and has enjoyed working at CDC for years now. It's a wonderful challenge, and she's still grateful for it every day. "We strive for perfection in terms of bite, shape, and color. My colleagues from the laboratory also come into the room to see how the crowns or veneers look on the patient. Before we finally place any work, we can still make adjustments. During his first years at CDC, he completed his dental technology degree at the DHTA in Utrecht. He's now been working at CDC for twelve years and has enjoyed working as the laboratory manager for the past four years. Four years ago, Coen successfully completed his Dentistry degree at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. This allows him to maintain interaction with patients, which he truly enjoys.

How long can you go without teeth with dentures?

In most cases, you'll receive temporary dentures. This way, you'll never have to walk around without teeth during the procedure.

What can I do if I have problems with my click-in dentures?

Because dentures are used frequently, it's normal for them to experience wear and tear or loose parts. A simple denture repair can quickly resolve this. We do this in our own lab, so you'll be ready to go in no time.

Snap-on dentures or dentures?

Dentures are a simpler and often more affordable solution for missing teeth. Clip-on dentures often offer more stability and comfort due to the use of implants. The best fit for you depends on your oral health and preferences. We're happy to help you make the right choice during an intake consultation.

Are click-in dentures painful?

The treatment can be uncomfortable, but it's not painful. The duration depends on the number of implants. We'll always discuss this with you during the intake.
