What does an anxiety dentist do?
The question is often asked what a dentist for anxiety does differently from a regular dentist.
- The intake is more extensive: we really take the time for you;
- We provide clear explanations in understandable language;
- We will stop whenever you want;
- Multiple treatments possible at the same time, even completed in one day;
- Treatment under anesthesia is possible.
We are one of the few clinics in the Netherlands that offers treatments under general anesthesia. This is ideal for people who are afraid of the dentist. It also allows us to have several treatments performed simultaneously, preventing unnecessary additional visits and ensuring you're done in one go. View more information about the sedation dentist
Fear of the dentist due to bad teeth
Shame often plays a role in people's fear of the dentist. It's especially important to go to the dentist when you have bad teeth. We know this can be a huge step. Delaying it often only leads to more problems. That's why we're so enthusiastic when people with bad teeth come in: it's good that you want to do something about it. We're happy to work with you, step by step, towards better teeth. Completely tailored to your needs and in an environment where you feel safe. If you decide you don't want to go anymore, we'll simply stop. You're in complete control.
Reimbursement for the fear dentist
Whether dental anxiety treatment is covered depends on your health insurance and the treatment you choose. Treatments are often covered by regular dental care, which is (partially) covered by supplementary dental insurance. Specific conditions apply for treatment under anesthesia. We'll explain everything to you during the intake, explaining everything calmly and clearly so you know exactly what to expect.

Why are people afraid of the dentist?
Common causes include a bad experience in the past, fear of losing control, negative stories or shame about teeth.
Afraid of the dentist: tips
Express your fears beforehand, schedule an introductory meeting without treatment, bring a support person with you, and ask for explanations at each step. These tips can hopefully help reduce your anxiety.
Afraid of the dentist: what to do?
The most important step is to choose a dentist who specializes in anxiety. Their experience means they know exactly how to handle this. This will make you feel safe and comfortable. You don't have to do it alone, and nothing you're not ready for is mandatory.
What is the advantage of treatment under anesthesia?
Our experience shows that after treatment under anesthesia, patients gain more confidence in the dentist. This also alleviates some of their fear. For follow-up treatments by the dentist specializing in dental anxiety, anesthesia is often no longer necessary. If the patient hasn't yet overcome their fear, treatment under anesthesia is, of course, still an option.
