After your wisdom tooth removal, proper aftercare is crucial. Follow these tips to minimize pain and avoid complications:
- Get plenty of rest, do not smoke and do not exercise in the first few days after your tooth has been extracted
- Eating after wisdom tooth extraction: Start with soft foods, such as yogurt and soup. Gradually introduce solids.
- Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours after your wisdom tooth extraction
- Brush your teeth gently and avoid the wound at first
- Rinse your mouth as advised by your dentist, often only after 24 hours.
Possible complaints after the treatment
It is normal to experience some temporary discomfort after your wisdom tooth has been extracted.
- Swollen cheeks after wisdom tooth extraction are often temporary. Cool your jaw to help.
- Bleeding after wisdom tooth extraction is normal, albeit mild. If it continues to bleed heavily, contact your dentist immediately.
