An implant is an artificial root that can be used to replace a single tooth or your entire set of teeth. An implant can be part of a larger structure, such as an implant-supported bridge.

Implants as a replacement for “missing” tooth roots.

Are you missing a tooth? Perhaps several? Then implants are an ideal solution. They replace the root of the tooth. The dentist can then place a crown or bridge on the implant.

How do we proceed?

Preparation

We begin with local anesthesia. Then we create an opening in the gums and drill a hole that fits the implant perfectly.

 

Placing implant

The next step is placing the implant. Once it's in place, we'll place a cap over the implant to seal it properly.

Crown, Bridge or Prosthesis

Subsequently, a period of 2 to 4 months is needed before the implant has grown firmly and you can put weight on it.

The final step is placing the crown, bridge, or denture. The space is neatly filled, and you once again have a complete set of teeth.

The placement of implants.

Before treatment begins, the dentist, also known as an implantologist, will first assess whether implant placement is feasible. X-rays are taken to determine this.

The implant treatment can be performed under local or general anesthesia.

In the following months to six months, the jawbone bonds with the implants. After that, the crown, bridge, or denture can be made.

The treatment can be done in one or two phases. In the first phase, the implant is placed and the covering plate (healing abutment) is visible above the gum. In the second phase, the implants are placed and the gum is reshaped.

Once the implant has grown in, the gum is removed again and only then is the abutment placed.

After a tooth is extracted, the jawbone will quickly shrink, but how long should I wait before seeing an implantologist?

The optimal time between extraction and implant placement depends largely on the health of the tooth and the surrounding tissues. If the tissues surrounding the tooth are severely inflamed, if significant bone loss has already occurred, or if wound healing is difficult after extraction, implant placement will be delayed. Often, surgery is delayed by three to six months, but if the situation is more favorable, this period can be shorter, approximately between six weeks and three months. In some favorable situations, the implant can also be placed immediately after extraction (immediate placementThis is mainly done with the front teeth and small molars.

What is a click denture?

A complete denture can be clicked onto two or more implants to prevent it from slipping on your jaw. This is called a snap-on denture or a click-on denture. The more luxurious option is a fixed bridge on implants. Implants are ideal for anchoring your full or partial denture.

If you have no teeth left, how many implants are needed in a jaw to create a set of teeth?

The number of implants can vary considerably depending on the situation! If a removable denture is being made, such as a snap-on denture, fewer implants will be necessary than with a fixed bridge. As a rule, a snap-on denture requires two to four implants in the lower jaw and four to six in the upper jaw. A fixed bridge construction requires a higher number of implants, but this can also vary. This depends, among other things, on how many teeth you want to replace with the bridge; the higher the number, the more implants you will need.

How does the intake process proceed?

Interview

During an intake appointment, the dentist (specialist) will examine the condition of your teeth. We use the latest techniques for this. We'll let you observe and discuss the options together. Naturally, we'll also assess your expectations.

Treatment plan / Budget

We create a customized treatment plan with an accompanying budget and, if necessary, propose various solutions. If authorization from your health insurer is required, we can also arrange that for you.

Planning and starting treatment

After you've approved the budget, we'll create a schedule. It's important that all appointments are scheduled in the correct order with the right practitioner. We'll also ask about your preferred days and times. After scheduling, we look forward to starting your treatment!

Alongside his career in motorsport, Jack has always been active as a dental implantologist. He studied dentistry in Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in 1992 at the then KU Nijmegen based on research into the treatment effects of immediate overdentures and conventional immediate dentures. CDC knows Jack from the past, where he enjoyed working with the team back then. As of October 1, 2025, he is making his return to CDC as Chief of Clinic. Giulio studied Dentistry in Madrid and graduated from the University Alfonso X El Sabio in 2015. After a short work experience, Giulio moved to the Netherlands and gained five years of work experience. Giulio also further specialized in Endodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry, Prosthetics and Surgery. Giulio works 50% at CDC and 50% in a Clinic in Lombardy (Italy).

He's now been working at CDC for twelve years and has enjoyed working as the laboratory manager for the past four years. How long does the process from intake to placement take?

The exact duration depends on the type of prosthesis, but on average we calculate 3 to 6 weeks.

Can I eat anything with dentures or prostheses?

Yes, this is definitely possible. After a short period of getting used to the prosthesis, you can eat normally again. It's wise to avoid very hard and sticky foods initially.

Are dentures or prostheses reimbursed?

Dentures are often covered by basic health insurance. Other types of prostheses sometimes require supplementary insurance. Always check with your health insurer.
